Have you bought a bike from Decathlon? We’ll explain everything you need to know about the warranty.

Here you will find precisions on the terms, duration and conditions of the statutory and commercial warranties covering your bicycle. Our aim is to inform you about your rights by setting out the scope of cover, the duration of cover and the claims procedure.

All of this information enables you to get the most out of your equipment with complete transparency.

SCOPE OF THE WARRANTY

The rules governing statutory warranties vary from country to country, and you are always entitled to the minimum level of protection provided by law. If the DECATHLON guarantee offers better terms than those provided by law, it is this guarantee that applies to ensure you have the best possible protection.

SCOPE OF APPLICATION

Our warranty policy applies as follows:

Products covered: The warranty applies exclusively to our new bikes (standard and electric models), as well as their original frames and components designed by DECATHLON or its partners.

Distribution network: The warranty applies to any bicycle purchased directly from DECATHLON (in-store or on our official website) or through our network of authorised retailers.

Beneficiaries and resale: The warranties are linked to the product. They therefore benefit both the original purchaser and any subsequent buyers in the event of a second-hand sale, subject to the presentation of the original proof of purchase.

Rights per country: The statutory warranty that applies is the one in force in the country where the bicycle was originally purchased.

Terms and conditions: For all claims, you must provide valid proof of purchase (a legible invoice or receipt). This document must state the date of the transaction and the bicycle’s identification details (model and frame serial number).

STATUTORY WARRANTY

Certain parts of your bike are subject to natural wear and tear as a result of use. As such, their replacement under normal use is not covered by the warranty.

Components subject to wear and tear:
- Brake system: Brake pads and disc brakes.
- Drive train: Chain, cassette, chainrings and derailleur pulleys.
- Wheels and tyres: Tyres, inner tubes and rim tapes.
- Cables: Cables, housings (speed and brake) and hydraulic hoses.
- Bearings: Wheel bearings, headset and bottom bracket.
- Comfort and visibility features: Grips or tape, saddle covers, light bulbs and batteries.
- Electronics: Battery and motor (in respect of normal wear and tear).

Scope of cover
=> The warranty covers only defects in conformity (design or manufacturing faults, or damage occurring during delivery).

However, it does not apply to damage caused by accident or improper handling.
The following, in particular, are excluded:
- Damage resulting from a fall or impact.
- Damage caused by unsuitable equipment (for example, the frame being clamped by a workshop stand or the use of an unsuitable bike rack).

COMMERCIAL WARRANTY

Our warranty covers any design or manufacturing fault confirmed by our workshops or by an authorised repairer, regardless of the country in which you purchased your bike.
Once the fault has been confirmed, we will ensure the product is restored to working order by repairing it or, if this proves impossible, by replacing it or issuing a refund. This cover is provided in addition to the statutory guarantees in force and does not, under any circumstances, replace your statutory rights.

TERM OF THE MANUFACTURER’S WARRANTY

Our bikes (Van Rysel, Rockrider, Btwin) come with a lifetime guarantee (subject to presentation of the original receipt; the guarantee is transferable) on the following parts:

- aluminium/steel/titanium frames
- rigid aluminium and steel forks
- aluminium stem
- aluminium handlebars

Bicycles with carbon frames come with a 5-year warranty on the following parts:

- carbon seat posts (excluding dropper seat posts)

This warranty applies to bicycles purchased on or after 1st July 2026.

* If the bicycle is purchased second-hand, the current manufacturer’s warranty is transferred to the new customer, provided that the new customer can produce proof of the original purchase of the bicycle.

IMPLEMENTATION OF THE WARRANTY AND CONDITIONS OF VALIDITY

To activate your warranty, you must present your original proof of purchase. The procedure is as follows:

- Diagnostic assessment: A Decathlon technician or authorised technician will inspect the bike to confirm the fault and check that it is not covered by an exclusion.
- Repair : If the fault is confirmed, Decathlon will cover all costs (parts and labour). The part is then repaired or replaced, depending on the technical decision taken by our workshops.
- Frame or fork replacement:We prefer to replace it with the same colour. If this item is not available or we have run out of stock, we will use a model from an equivalent range in a colour that is available.
If this last option is not feasible, we will use a higher-end model
Exchange or refund:If the bike is not repairable (for example, if spare parts are no longer available), we will either replace the bike or refund the original purchase price.

For the warranty to be valid, the following conditions must be met:

- In good overall condition:The bicycle must not have been subjected to any impact, fall or accident.
- Use and maintenance:The bicycle must be used and maintained in accordance with the user manual (adjustments, tightening and recommended maintenance).
- Product integrity:No structural alterations must have been carried out.The warranty will be void if the component has been repaired outside our authorised workshops or if incompatible parts have been fitted.
- Full product:The bicycle must be presented in its entirety for any claim to be considered.
- Attention to detail:The original finish and decorations must not be altered or removed.Any cosmetic alterations (paint, varnish, glitter, marker pen, etc.) or changes to the original appearance will invalidate the warranty covering the finish.

EXCLUSIONS

The manufacturer’s warranty does not cover:

- Damage caused by third parties, whether intentionally or through negligence
- Normal wear and tear of parts
- Damage caused by external events (fire, lightning, uninsured transport, vandalism, etc.)
- Damage resulting from failure to follow the instructions or maintenance recommendations.
For example:Frame damaged as a result of a chain jump, showing significant wear and tear.

FAQ

Does the warranty cover damage caused by the failure of a wear-and-tear part due to a lack of maintenance?

No, the warranty does not apply.Parts subject to normal wear and tear are excluded from the warranty, as is damage resulting from failure to follow the maintenance instructions.

Does the manufacturer’s warranty transfer to the new buyer if I sell my second-hand bike?

Yes, the warranty is linked to the product and not to the original purchaser, provided that the new purchaser can produce the original proof of purchase (showing the date and serial number).

What alternatives or compensation are available if the faulty part is no longer available in the same colour or model?

We will give priority to replacing the item with one of the same colour or a model from an equivalent or higher range.

Do the new warranty terms, which come into effect on 1st July 2026, apply retrospectively to a bicycle purchased before that date?

No, the terms and conditions do not apply retrospectively; the applicable terms and conditions remain strictly those in force on the exact date of your bike’s initial purchase.

Is the bike’s warranty voided if repairs or modifications are carried out outside the Decathlon network of authorised workshops?

Yes, the terms and conditions state that no structural modifications may be made and that the warranty will be void if the component has been repaired outside the authorised network or if incompatible parts have been fitted.

Is damage to the frame caused by the use of unsuitable transport equipment, such as a non-compliant bike rack, covered?

Absolutely not; the warranty covers only design or manufacturing faults and explicitly excludes damage caused by unsuitable equipment (negligence or external factors).
