Designed for everyday cycling in town ... and enjoying it!

The fun of city biking with the comfort of a Dutch-style bike (upright back, ergonomic grips, saddle designed for comfortable sitting and wide tyres).

First use

What to set up before your first ride

Before setting off on your first ride on your new bike, you need to make sure it's properly adjusted (if it was not already adjusted in the store) and the tyres are fully inflated (see below). To do this, you'll need a 6 mm Allen key.

Follow this video carefully to set up your bike:

The right tyre pressure for your bike

Your tyre pressure is displayed on the side of the tyre. There is a minimum and maximum pressure to respect: between 2.5 and 4.5 bars.If you ride your town bike daily, check the condition of your tyres every week and re-inflate them every month. The recommended tyre pressure is between 3.5 bars (comfort) and 4.5 bars (performance). If you have a foot pump with a pressure gauge, you can check the pressure easily. If you don't have one, check the tyre pressure by squeezing it between two fingers. It should be firm while still yielding a bit when pressed. The harder the tyre, the faster the wheels turn, but the more you'll feel the bumps in the road. If the tyre is too soft, however, there's a risk of it puncturing and of the wheels being damaged.IMPORTANT: Inflating your tyres to at least 3.5 bars ensures better puncture-resistance and a good balance between comfort and performance.

How to use the dynamo correctly

The dynamo powers your bike's front and rear lighting. To install it, follow the instructions on the video:

Caring for your town bike

Once a month: inflate your tyres

If you ride your town bike daily, remember to check the condition of your tyres every week and re-inflate them every month.   The recommended tyre pressure is between 3.5 bars (comfort) and 4.5 bars (performance).   A foot pump with a pressure gauge makes it very easy to check the pressure as you inflate your tyres. If you don't have one, check the tyre pressure by squeezing it between two fingers. It should be firm while still yielding a bit when pressed. The harder the tyre, the faster you can ride, but the more you'll feel the bumps in the road. On the other hand, riding with under-inflated tyres risks damaging your wheel rims and increases the chance of a flat.   IMPORTANT: Inflating your tyres to at least 3.5 bars ensures better puncture-resistance and a good balance between comfort and performance.

Once a month: grease your chain and bike lock

If you store your town bike outside at night, the chain and bike lock will rust more quickly. This is why it's important to clean and grease them regularly.   How to grease your chain Turn the wheel using a pedal, and spray grease along the entire length of the chain while changing gears.  How to grease your bike lock Hold it straight and spray into the lock. Then insert the key and turn it a few times. Wipe off any excess grease with a paper towel.

Every 2 months: wash your town bike

Riding in town — except when it rains — won't get your bike as dirty as if mountain biking through the woods, so you won't need to clean it as frequently. Every two months, give your bike a big cleaning. Using bike shampoo and a bucket of hot water, wipe down the frame, handlebar, mudguard, etc. It's best to avoid hosing it down with a water jet, as this could damage some of the components. When done, dry your town bike with a dry cloth to prevent any rust. Use the opportunity to check that all the screws and bolts are nice and tight. Sometimes, when riding on uneven or cobblestone streets, your Elops will experience small jolts, and this can cause the bolts to loosen, little by little. As for greasing your chain, do this at the end after you've finished washing your bike.

Every 3 months: check the brakes

Brake pads don't last forever. Depending on how you ride, where you ride, and how much you weigh, your brakes will wear down slowly or quickly. This is why it's important to check them regularly and change them if necessary.  Also, are your brakes tight? If you have any questions, we highly recommend visiting a Decathlon workshop, where a bike technician can adjust your town bike's brakes to ensure they are in tip-top shape.

Have a problem?

The lights don't work

If your lights are not working, there may be several different reasons:   1 - Check that the dynamo is correctly positioned against your tyre   2- Check that the dynamo is plugged in   3- Watch the video below to check the electrical connections (knowing that if one light does not work, both will short circuit)   4- If that does not work, contact customer support or your nearest DECATHLON store

The brakes don't work

If your lighting doesn't work, follow the steps below:1- Check that the dynamo is correctly installed against your tyre (the wheel is in contact)2- Check that the dynamo is connected (all cables are attached)3- Check the electrical connections; if one light doesn't work, the two lights are short-circuiting (neither cable should be stripped)

Your gears are not shifting properly

If your gears are not shifting properly, this may be due to several factors:The components wear out and lose their adjustment over time.1 - Check the derailleur housing and cable. If they are worn, rusted, twisted, or stripped, replace them.2 - Check the chain - it should be greased and free of rust or hard spots. Check its wear with a chain tester.3 - Check your derailleur by following these steps:- Place the chain on the smallest gear, then release the chain from the derailleur (hold the derailleur on the large gear, lower the speed on the shifter).- Adjust the low stop (high) so that alignment A is perfect between the derailleur tensioner and the outer surface of the smallest cog.- Activate the derailleur by hand to adjust the high stop (Low) to align the tensioner with the largest cog.- Screw the tension wheel at the gear shifter, then unscrew it by 2 turns.- Screw the derailleur tension wheel, then unscrew it by 2 turns.- Put back the derailleur housing and cable. Stretch the cable and attach it to the derailleur tightening screw.- Activate the drive train by bringing the chain over the smallest chainring and the largest cog.- Loosen the wheels if the gears don't increase fast enough; tighten if they don't decrease fast enough.

The wheel makes noise

If the front wheel is making noise, it could be that:

1- The brake pads are touching the rim See the section "Your braking is not powerful enough" for how to properly adjust your brake pads

2- The mudguard is touching the tyre (see video below)

If the noise is coming from the back wheel, it could be that:

1- The brake pads are touching the rim See the section "Your braking is not powerful enough" for how to properly adjust your brake pads NOTE: Before making the adjustment, make sure that the wheel is properly aligned. To do this, use a #15 wrench to loosen the bolt holding the back wheel and re-center the wheel within the frame.

2- The mudguard is touching the tyre (see video below)   If the noise persists, please visit a Decathlon store near you for an in-depth diagnostic.

One of your tyres is flat

Inside the tyre there is an inner tube which holds the air. When your tyre is flat, it's generally because the inner tube has a puncture. It's fairly easy to repair; check out our video tutorial. If needed, visit your local Decathlon workshop for assistance.
