FORCLAZ WT100

2022

FORCLAZ has designed this pair of walkie-talkies for short-range communications (5 km in non built-up areas) when hiking or trekking in the mountain

Our team based in the Alps designed these walkie-talkies so you can communicate in groups without using telecommunication networks. PMR 446 MHz compatible. 8 channels, 121 sub-channels (CTCSS and DCS)

Important: impact of covid on batteries

As a result of the COVID-19 situation, delivery and storage times have been extended. Thus, the NiMH batteries used in WT100 walkie-talkies may be almost or even completely discharged at the time of purchase (a natural phenomenon linked to the technology of rechargeable batteries).
Therefore, if you observe abnormal autonomies on your radios, we recommend you to proceed to a complete charge and discharge of your device (charge between 8 and 16 hours) before recharging it again.
We apologise for the inconvenience caused and thank you for your understanding.

Difficulties of use

My walkie-talkie no longer charges or has poor battery life, what should i do?

In the event of poor autonomy, you can check the condition and the age of the rechargeable batteries.

Rechargeable battery technology may result in partial battery life if batteries are not recharged/used regularly. If you have not used your product for several months, please carry out 3 charge & discharge cycles so that the batteries recover their autonomy (one charge/discharge cycle = let the product charge overnight then leave it on until at discharge).

If not charging, check that the cable is working properly. It is a standard micro USB cable. If it works with another device, the rechargeable batteries should be replaced.

My belt clip is broken or lost, what should i do?

Your belt clip is broken or lost? You can find it as a spare part below.

I have a problem with the ptt button, what should i do?

If you have lost or broken the plastic part, it should be replaced. This is available as a spare part below.

If when you press the button nothing happens, please contact online support or contact a DECATHLON workshop to agree on a solution.

Use of channels and sub-channels

How does a sub-channel work?

Broadly speaking, when a sub-channel is selected, a radio signal is used to communicate your message, while you are transmitting. Any walkie-talkie listening to the same channel AND the same sub-channel can then hear your message and communicate with you.

What is the difference between dcs and ctcss?

These acronyms correspond to two coding techniques for communication sub-channels: in CTCSS, the key is Analog (inaudible sound signal) and offers 38 combinations-in DCS, the key is digital (binary signal) and offers 83 combinationsThese two categories of sub-channels are completely independent of each other.

Can the no x dcs sub-channel communicate with the no x ctcss sub-channel?

No - as explained above.

In fact, a walkie-talkie in DCS mode is not capable of recognizing and accepting messages sent using a CTCSS coding key and vice versa.

Why can i hear other people on my walkie-talkie?

Walkie-talkies are so-called ""free"" radio transmitter / receiver devices. The frequencies are therefore standardized and numbered (in channels and sub-channels). If other people are already using the same channel or sub-channel, you can listen and communicate with them.
If you only want to communicate with your group, all you have to do is select another free sub-channel.

I am using a channel without a sub-channel (sub-channel set to 0). why can i hear other people who are using a sub-channel?

If you haven't set a sub-channel, your walkie-talkie will not try to decode the key of users who have selected a sub-channel (DCS or CTCSS). Which means you are able to hear any user, using the same channel, irrespective of the sub-channel selected.
Important: however, as you have not set a sub-channel, you cannot talk to them.

Batteries and power supply

What type of battery should i use for my walkie-talkie?

Our walkie-talkies are compatible with all types of NimH 1.2V AAA rechargeable batteries. In the event of an emergency, you can also use 1.5V alkaline batteries but be careful not to mix the two types of batteries and never attempt to recharge Alkaline batteries in your walkie-talkie. This could damage the device and is not covered by our warranty (improper use of product).

How can i recharge the walkie-talkie batteries (power bank? solar-powered charger? etc.)

The WT100 walkie-talkies can be recharged via any USB port. They work as a battery charger, directly charging the batteries they contain when connected to a USB power supply via the cable provided. You can therefore connect them to any charger (car, sector, solar panel, computer) as long as this charger is USB compatible.

What kind of usb port is used on this model?

The following walkie-talkies all use a standard MicroUSB port: WT100 (ref. 8581515 and 8759188)- ONCHANNEL 510 (ref: 8335339)- BGB 500 (ref: 8494241)- WT500 (ref: 8560563)- WT900 (ref:8560564). So you can use your own cable to charge them provided it is MicroUSB compatible.

Compatibility

In which countries can i use my walkie-talkies?

The use of your walkie-talkies is regulated; you are free to use them in all EU countries as well as Russia, Morocco, Tunisia, Turkey, Ukraine, UK and Singapore. You are not permitted to use them in other countries.

What does the prm446 walkie-talkie standard mean?

Your walkie-talkies are PMR446 Private Mobile Radios. They transmit on the 446Mhz frequency band. This band frequency is free to use and can be used without a licence or permit.

How many radios can communicate with each other simultaneously?

It's impossible for multiple walkie-talkies to communicate on the same frequency. The technology used by walkie-talkies is called: "Half Duplex;" when you start to speak, the walkie-talkie uses the frequency to transmit the message and blocks its use by other devices. To reply, you have to wait for the speaker to finish and free up the frequency. However, you can have multiple transmitters communicating simultaneously on different frequencies.

Why doesn't my walkie-talkie work with walkie-talkies that have 121 sub-channels?

To simplify the use of the DCS and CTCSS sub-channels, some manufacturers "have "added" "38 CTCSS sub-channels (see explanation above) and 83 DCS codes, which gives 121 sub-channel keys. In such a case, assume that channels 1 to 38 correspond to sub-channels 1 to 38 in CTCSS and channels 39 to 121 correspond to channels 1 to 83 in DCS. For example: channel 105 in this type of walkie-talkie corresponds to DCS sub-channel No 67 of your DECATHLON walkie-talkie.

Can i use a headset with this walkie-talkie?

Unlike our other models (WT500 and WT900), the WT100 walkie-talkie does not have a headphones socket.

What is the difference between a hunting walkie-talkie and a hiking walkie-talkie?

You use a hunting walkie-talkie in a different way from a hiking walkie-talkie. A hunter needs to be very quiet and discreet; he doesn't, for example, want his walkie-talkie to emit unwanted sounds when stalking his prey. Which is why the BGB500 (designed for hunting) doesn't emit any sound other that the voice of the user while the WT100, WT500 and WT900 include features such as the Roger Beep and feedback noise. The colours of the different models are also designed specifically for hunting and hiking.

Communication range

I have trouble communicating in town. why?

In town, the radio waves emitted by the walkie-talkie are obstructed by vehicles and buildings. This interference reduces the strength of the signal and therefore its range. This is why the recommended distance for use in urban areas is 300 m for this particular model.

What is the maximum range of a walkie-talkie?

The range of a device depends on its transmitting power as well as the presence of obstacles capable of blocking the waves between two devices. In general, you can expect the following ranges: Flat open area: 5 km range
Hilly terrain: 1 km range
Town: 300 m range.
For information, during a field test conducted in good weather conditions, we managed to transmit over a distance of more than 13 km, between 2 mountain passes!

Durability

Are these walkie-talkies water resistant?

The WT100 is not water resistant; it can withstand a few splashes but may be damaged if used in heavy rain.

Health

Are radio waves from my walkie-talkie bad for my health?

Like all wireless communication products, walkie-talkies emit radio waves. However, the PMR446 standard imposes a maximum transmission power of 0.5W, the lowest in the world for radio communication systems. In addition, our product complies with standard IEC 62209 which regulates the maximum level of wave absorption for wireless communication devices.

What are the sar (specific absorption rate) values:

The SAR values are as follows:

- Head: 0.91 W/Kg
- Body: 1.383 W/Kg
