B'TWIN 14" BIKE 3-5 YEARS UNICORN

2020

1, 2, 3 pedal! We've designed this 14" bike for children aged 3 to 4.5 years, between 90 and 105cm, so they can learn to ride and pedal just like the big kids

With its low stepthrough, this bike with stabilisers allows your child to learn at their own pace. It's equipped with a chain guard and mudguards to prevent rubbing and dirt.

First use

How to adjust the height of the saddle and handlebar before the first ride

It's important to adjust the height of the seat post and handlebar to fit the child. The minimum insertion line of the seat post should always be hidden from view for safety (ensure this minimum insertion line is never exceeded).

To determine the correct saddle height: sitting on the saddle, the child should have both forefeet touching the ground.

This adjustment will allow the child to easily get on and off their bike, and prevent their knees from rising too high as they pedal.

Ensuring the brakes are correctly adjusted

Roll the 14" bike by the handlebar. Press the brake lever. The rear wheel should then stop moving.

If you notice the brake isn't working correctly, please try the following: There is an adjustment wheel in front of the brake lever. You'll see a "+" and "-". If you  turn the wheel clockwise (towards the "+"), it will tighten the brake (more powerful braking). If you turn the adjustment wheel anti-clockwise (towards the "-"), it will loosen the brake (= weaker braking).

It's important to regularly check the brakes are correctly adjusted.

What pressure to inflate the 14" tyres to?

The recommended pressure is always written on the side of each tyre. We recommend inflating the tyres to the pressure indicated on the tyre sidewall. This may vary between tyres.

To check if the tyre is properly inflated, simply squeeze it between your fingers: it should be firm while still yielding a little when pressed.

Removing the stabilisers

It's very easy to remove the stabilisers from the 14" bike!

Simply unscrew the adjustment wheel on each side of the bike. No tools needed: simply unscrew the adjustment wheel by hand, turning it anti-clockwise. Then, remove the stabilisers from each side.

And it's done!

It's the start of a whole new two-wheeled adventure :-)

Maintaining the 14" kids' bike

Greasing the chain

You can use an all in one product for loosening, cleaning, lubricating and protecting the chain on the bike (product available in Decathlon stores). It's a very practical all in one product. To grease the chain on the bike, use the pedal to turn it and spray one long spray along the entire length of the chain.  Then leave to dry for a few minutes.

Washing the bike

If you notice the bike is dirty after a few rides (mud, rain, dust, etc.), give it a good clean whenever it's needed.   If it's just dust , it's very simple: use a dry cloth to clean it. If there is more persistent mud or other dirt, you can clean it using a bucket of hot water and a sponge (or a wet cloth) with soap or bike shampoo. You can then clean the dirty parts of the bike (frame, fork, handlebar, wheels).   DID YOU KNOW?   Avoid spraying your bike with the hose: some components won't take it kindly!   When you're finished, simply wipe it dry with a dry cloth to prevent rust.Take the opportunity to check the tightness of the clamps and wheels: are they tight enough? If not, simply tighten them with a spanner.

Storing the bike

We recommend storing the 14" bike in a dry place.  It's important to ensure it stays dry.

I've got a problem

Removing and reassembling the kids' chainguard to change an inner tube

Why would you take off the chainguard on the 14" bike? It's unavoidable if you want to have access to the rear wheel to change the inner tube, for example.

KIDS' BIKE REAR WHEEL:

STEP 1: Face the right-hand side of the bike. Use a 15mm spanner to loosen the right pedal (turn it anti-clockwise).

Do the same for the other side: face the left-hand side of the bike. Use a 15mm spanner to loosen the left pedal (turn it clockwise).

STEP 2: Use a spanner to remove the elastomer ring located over the chainguard, then push it up the seat post. You can then hook it onto the seat clamp collar to prevent it from falling down.

Then, remove the second ring located underneath the chainguard.

STEP 3: unscrew the chainguard nut (located on the rear wheel axle) using a 15mm spanner, on each side of the wheel.

Then, remove the flat washer. Position the crank facing forwards (see photo) to more easily remove the chainguard. You can now remove the chainguard. Hold the back of the chainguard and remove it completely. Do the same on the other side.

STEP 4: loosen the wheel nut using a 14mm spanner. Then, remove the nut and the grooved washer (this washer has grooves on top).

STEP 5:  push the rear wheel forwards to loosen the chain. Then remove the chain. Remove the wheel from its position by pulling it backwards. (please note, it remains attached to the bike by the drum brake). Remove the flat washer from the right-hand side.

THE TYRE AND INNER TUBE ARE NOW ACCESSIBLE!

You can now change the tyre if needed or repair a puncture to the inner tube.
