How to set your drag

When a big fish pulls on the line, the drag releases the line to prevent breakage. It is therefore important to set the casting weight of the drag so that it is slightly below the breaking strain of the most fragile part of the rig.

- Tighten the drag knob (clockwise) to increase drag torque.
- Unscrew the drag knob (anticlockwise) to reduce drag torque.

FIRST USE
How to fill your reel

1/ Install your reel
2/ Pass the line through the guides.
3/ Make a loop or self-tightening knot, then cut off the excess line.
4/ Open your pick-up.
5/ Place the loop around your spool.
6/ Close your pick-up and tighten the line.
7/ Dip the spool of line into water.
8/ Using a cloth, keep pressure on the line and turn the crank of your reel.
Fill to the top lip of the reel spool: an underfilled or overfilled reel will see its casting performance greatly reduced.

MAINTENANCE

Maintaining your reel is essential to ensure optimal performance and prolong its life.
A well-maintained reel ensures smooth, accurate casts and reliable operation when fighting fish. What's more, preventing the build-up of dirt, moisture and debris helps to avoid corrosion and damage. By investing time in maintenance, anglers preserve their experience, maximise their chances of success and respect their equipment.

How to maintain your reel

In this video, we'll cover all of the important information on taking care of your reel.
Here, the video refers to a sea fishing reel, but the method is similar to the one used for a fresh water reel.

How to rinse your reel

1/ Hold the reel in a horizontal position, with the brake tightened and crank screwed: rinse in low-pressure fresh water (tap/shower) without immersing the reel in water!
2/ Make sure you rinse the spool really well (around 15 seconds)
3/ If needed, use a toothbrush to remove any dirt from hard-to-reach places
4/ Quickly turn the reel to get rid of excess water
5/ Remove the spool and dry it using a soft, dry cloth
6/ Add a drop of oil to any sensitive points (roller, axes, crank button, bearings on each side of the casing) then turn the reel
7/ Store in a dry place with the brake loosened
NB: Be careful when using anti-grip products such as WD40, as they also remove the grease and require careful re-lubrication (see "Greasing your reel")
