TYRES: HOW TO INFLATE THEM CORRECTLY

The ideal recommended pressure is 2.2 bar. For greater comfort, reduce your tyre pressure to 1.7 bar. If riding on paved roads, you can go up to 4 bar.

The Riverside Touring 920 is equipped with Tubeless Ready rims and comes with special valves.

Remember to inflate your tyres every 2 weeks.

Accessories

Make sure your accessories (luggage rack, baggage, etc. ) are properly attached. A badly attached accessory can get damaged, break or even cause an accident, with the effect of vibrations from the road.

CABLES

Check that your different cable housings aren't damaged and that they're well-positioned.

If you see a damaged housing (for example, if you see the metal cable), change it as soon as possible.

DYNAMO: USING IT CORRECTLY

Cycle2Charge USB charger for bikes - charge your mobile phone using the dynamo on your bike

Using a smartphone or GPS navigation device when cycling has become the norm.If your phone battery runs out before you finish, you can charge your phone using the Cycle2Charge USB charger, which will use the energy supplied by the dynamo. This USB charger charges the batteries of smartphones and many other devices.

The bike charger with USB connection: for various portable devices

Cycle2Charge is a USB charger for bikes suitable for charging batteries on Android devices, iPhones and Windows Phones as well as several mobile GPS navigation systems. Also, the USB bike charger can be used to effortlessly charge power banks and other energy storage devices with a USB connection. The bike charger with USB connection: It doesn't require any additional devices, but uses the electricity generated by the dynamo on the bike hub to charge the connected USB devices. It can be installed on any Ahead helmet available in the shops. Simply replace the existing helmet cap with the Cycle2Charge and you can charge your mobile phone using the dynamo on the bike, once you've connected the cables included.

USB bike charger with high power output

Cycle2Charge is a USB bike charger with especially high efficiency. This means that the device is particularly suitable regular cyclists and tourist rides. At a speed of 12 km/h, the bike charger with USB connection delivers an output power of 500 mA. The maximum charging current of 1000 mA is reached at a speed of 21 km/h. If you charge your mobile phone using the Cycle2Charge via a bike dynamo, the device delivers a uniform USB charging voltage of 5 volts and can be used universally, using the standard USB charging port. For some devices, it's advisable to use an external battery, since they don't use the maximum charging current on the Cycle2Charge USB bike charger. This is the case mainly for iPhones and some modern Android devices. The device is characterised by maximum operational safety. This is because it's equipped with an overload protection mechanism. So all connected devices are protected against the risk of surge and thus against damage, even when going downhill at high speeds.

Stable, rust-resistant treatment

If you want to charge your phone using your bike's dynamo, the Cycle2Charge USB charger is just what you need, and comes with some handy extra benefits. The inside of the device is made from anodised aluminium, while the outer coating is impact-resistant plastic. All of the materials are rust resistant and therefore perfect for long-term outdoor use. The device is made from several parts to keep it as stable as possible. The Cycle2Charge USB charger is easy to install and can be mounted straight onto your handlebar using its special bracket (sold separately). Even when wearing cycling gloves, your USB bike charger can be easily operated with just one hand, so you'll always be safe in traffic.

SADDLE: HOW TO ADJUST THE HEIGHT CORRECTLY

Make sure you adjust the saddle height correctly before going out for your first ride.

Our advice: raise the saddle to your hip height and fasten the seat clamp collar with a size 5 Allen key (found on all multi-tools). If you want a more precise adjustment, you should be able to rest your foot on the pedal with your leg straight, then all you need to do is set off and ride ;)

Safety

We recommend wearing a helmet and gloves while riding. A fall could happen at any time and the only thing between you and bloody hands is your helmet and gloves.

Maintenance

Servicing your Riverside 920 will keep all of its parts working for as long as possible and ensure you have the most fun when riding. Aside from the aesthetic aspect of having a clean bike, failing to service it can lead to problems that can cause malfunctions: jammed cables, rust, leaks, premature wear, and more.

Spring cleaning

It's a good idea to clean your bike thoroughly from time to time. Here's a step-by-step guide on how to give your bike a deep clean. The more frequently you ride, the more often this type of cleaning is recommended.

Avoid using high-pressure cleaners when cleaning your RIVERSIDE TOURING 920, as water may get into the bearings and cable housings!
CAUTION If you use the bike in a salty environment, rinse it thoroughly as soon as possible.

Over the course of your bike's lifetime, as you put miles on it, you'll need to replace certain parts for safety reasons and to ensure everything works smoothly.

Every 100 km: Clean the chain and lubricate the drivetrain.

Every 2000 km: Replace the brake pads. Please visit your local Decathlon workshop to have them replaced, or you can also do it yourself following our tutorial.
Have your tyres replaced, or replace them yourself using our tutorial.

Every 5000 km: Have your chain and rear wheel cogs replaced (visit the nearest Decathlon workshop).

DEGREASING YOUR DRIVETRAIN

How to degrease your bike chain
In order to properly degrease your chain, it's important to spray a degreasing product on the entire chain and drivetrain. Then, wipe the chain and the cassette with a clean cloth to remove grease and dirt. Depending on the general condition of your chain, be sure to clean any particularly dirty parts thoroughly!
Lastly, rinse it abundantly until you've removed all the residue. Sometimes, even after spraying with cleaning product, some dirt might still remain.
So finish by letting it sit for a few minutes before wiping your chain down again with a dry cloth to fully remove any remaining residue.

To perform this task more efficiently and for a cleaner chain, we recommend using our chain cleaner.

REPLACING THE BRAKE PADS

After replacing your brake pads, we recommend bedding them in so that they don't "seize up" (which would cause weaker braking power).

HOW TO CHECK FOR TYRE WEAR

Riding a bike with worn-down tyres can cause problems, including loss of traction, flat tyres and punctures. To reduce the chance of these, here are some tips on how to check the wear on your tyres.

RIVERSIDE TOURING 920 ⎟ 2020
REPLACING YOUR TYRE

Your tyre might be quite rigid if it is old; it's okay to use some force to get it off.

HOW TO REPLACE YOUR CASSETTE

Simply unscrew the cassette using the lockring tool and chain whip, then screw on the new cassette.

You'll find the lockring tool and chain whip at the link below; for a new cassette, please check the "Spare Parts" section.

REPLACING THE CHAIN

To do this, you will need: a chain tool, a new chain, and a quick-link.

Place the chain on the last cog and on the smallest chainring.

Remove the quick-link using the pliers or chain tool, then take the old chain off the drivetrain.

Place the new chain on the last cog and on the smallest chainring. This will make it easier to determine its optimal length.
IMPORTANT: certain chains only fit in 1 direction, so be sure to check the user guide.

The chain should pass close to the top pulley of the upper jockey wheel on the derailleur.

Once you've determined the correct length, use the chain tool to cut the chain.

Lastly, install the quick-link onto the chain, turn the pedal so as to position the quick-link on the upper part of the chain, and use your hand to apply pressure and ensure it is firmly locked in place.

When and how to change your handlebar tape

When your handlebar tape is torn, no longer has that soft feel or no longer dampens vibrations as it did at the start, it's time to change it!

Our video explains how to change your handlebar tape!

REPAIRING A FLAT TYRE

Check the tyre several times so that you don't experience another flat.

Replacing your tyre

Your tyre might be quite rigid if it is old; it's okay to use some force to get it off.

HOW TO CONVERT YOUR WHEELS TO TUBELESS

To reduce the risk of your inner tube being punctured or pinched, you may want to consider making the wheels on your Riverside "TUBELESS".

To do this, you'll need to buy some puncture prevention fluid. We advise you not to re-use the old fluid.
Your tyre might be quite stiff if it's old, so you may need to use some force to get it off.
Check that your tyre is compatible with tubeless ready (on the sidewall of the tyre) and that your rim has suitable rim tape.

STEPS: 1. Remove the wheel 2. Remove the original tyre and inner tube from the wheel 3. Insert a TUBELESS READY valve through the rim hole (from inside the rim) 4. Apply the tyre sealant (puncture prevention fluid). 5. Mount your new TUBELESS READY tyre (the Riverside Touring 920 comes with Tubeless Ready tyres). 6. Inflate up to 4 or 5 bar so your tyre "presses firmly" up against the rim; then deflate to the recommended pressure.

If it seems too tricky, just visit your nearest Decathlon workshop and ask them to do it for you.

My wheel is warped

When you take your new bike out for a ride for the first time, a lot of parts can shift and fall into place.

You'll hear the spokes on your wheels creak because of the residual torsion in them.

Your wheels should not buckle or be twisted in any way. If this does happen, use the free check-up available to you within six months of purchase and call in at one of our Decathlon workshops to have your wheel repaired free of charge.

YOUR GEARS ARE NOT SHIFTING PROPERLY

There could be several reasons why your gears (cogs) are not shifting correctly.

1. Incorrectly positioned cable housing caps can hinder the pulling action on the derailleur cable and cause the shifting of the gears to be off. If a housing end is out of position, push it back into place.

2. The cable and housing might be jammed. If you can't shift into the smallest gears (onto the smallest cogs), and if the derailleur doesn't move even when the gear shifter is operated, then the cable and the housing have probably jammed up. In this case, the cable and housing need to be replaced.

3. Take your Riverside bike to a Decathlon workshop to have the derailleur adjusted.

4. You should also check that the derailleur hanger is not twisted. If it is, check the "DERAILLEUR HANGER IS BROKEN" section.

NB: If you regularly ride your Riverside in wet or muddy conditions, or if you regularly wash your Riverside bike with a lot of water, then your cables and cable housing will need to be replaced more frequently. Washing your bike using a pressure hose is highly discouraged as it can push dirt and dust into the cable housing.

Changing your chain

To do this, you will need: a chain tool, a new chain, and a quick-link.

Place the chain on the last cog and on the smallest chainring.

Remove the quick-link using the pliers or chain tool, then take the old chain off the drivetrain.
IMPORTANT: certain chains only fit in 1 direction, so be sure to check the user guide.

Place the new chain on the last cog and on the smallest chainring. This will make it easier to determine its optimal length.

YOUR DERAILLEUR HANGER IS BENT

A bent hanger causes the derailleur to be out of alignment and therefore unable to function correctly.

Stand behind your bike and check the alignment of the derailleur.

If the hanger is twisted or broken, take your bike to a Decathlon workshop to have it replaced. A spare derailleur hanger is included with your purchase of a new Riverside bike.

YOUR BATTERY WON'T CHARGE

1- Make sure the terminal is plugged in correctly

2- Check if the wires are in contact and that neither is broken or cut

3- Make sure the wire is fully plugged into the cover on the stem
