FIRST USE

To help you get to grips with your new ride, here are some tips on using your EDR for the first time:

  • Van Rysel EDR CF disc Rival AXS women's power meter

    TYRE PRESSURE

For your first outing, remember to choose your tyre pressure, depending on the weather conditions and your weight.

    BEDDING IN THE BRAKE PADS

Running in the brake pads is vital when using a bike for the first time.

To run them in properly, we recommend you brake 20 to 30 times at over 25 km/h, without locking the wheel. Also make sure you don't stop between braking to avoid "freezing" and thus sticking the pads to your discs.

    TORQUE SETTINGS

Please respect the torque settings, especially the settings for the stem/handlebars (please see the user guide), which can cause a fall if they are not tightened properly.

To set your position properly on the bike, carry a set of Allen keys with you on your rides.

ADJUSTING YOUR POSITION

Steering position

To adjust your position, you can remove the "spacers" located under the stem. Once you've set everything up as you want, don't be afraid to cut the part of the blade that comes above the stem. We recommend getting a professional to do this in one of our bike workshops.

USING YOUR ELECTRIC DRIVE TRAIN

GEAR SETTINGS

Setting up gears for an electric derailleur differs from a mechanical derailleur.

USING YOUR ELECTRIC DRIVE TRAIN

Battery charger

To replace your gears, derailleurs and levers use a battery. Each derailleur has a battery that you can recharge using the charging station supplied with the bike.

USING YOUR ELECTRIC DRIVE TRAIN

APPLICATION

Sram has an app that gives you access to more information about the drive train of your AXS.

You can adjust your derailleurs, access the level of your battery and many other features.

MAINTENANCE

Maintaining your bike is essential if you want to expand its lifecycle. That starts with regularly cleaning your bike, the frame and drive train.

    Step 1

Apply a degreaser to your drive train. Place a cloth on top of the brake discs to prevent them from being covered with degreaser.

  • MAINTENANCE

    Step 2

Clean your drive train with the aid of a brush. Apply a suitable cleaning product to your frame.

  • MAINTENANCE

    Step 3

Drying your bike and lubricating your drive train.

Essential tools for your workshop.

To maintain your bike correctly, you need to have the right tools.

What checks do you need to make before going out on the bike?

Read the article below to find out what checks you need to make on your bike before going out for a ride:

What checks do you need to make before going out on the bike?
What pressure should the tyres on your bike be?

The tyres are the only part of your bike that is in contact with the ground. It's important to minimise the risk of them losing grip, which is why it's important to make sure they are inflated to the right pressure.

Check out our tips at the following link:

When to change your tyres

Riding with worn tyres comes with risks:

Loss of grip.

Greater exposure to punctures.

In this article, we'll tell you how to spot a worn tyre:

What should you do if you hear creaking while riding?

Since both the frame and the seat post are made of carbon, you can sometimes hear a creaking sound while riding.

It is often due to a seat post that isn't greased sufficiently.

Disassemble the seat post, apply a bit of carbon grease on the seat post, and then reposition it to the correct adjustment.

When to change your chain

The chain is a key part of your bike's drive train.

It is an important part of the drive train, since it connects the bottom bracket and the cassette.

It transfers energy for efficient movement, so it is fundamental to keep your chain in good condition.

In this article, you'll find out how to recognise a worn-out chain:

When to change your brake pads

It is time to replace your brake pads when they aren't as reactive as they were at first; that is, they lack a little bite.

If you hear an abnormal sound when braking abruptly, that can be a sign of wear.

It's always worth checking how much brake pad lining is left.
You'll need to change the pads if the lining is less than 0.5 mm thick.

When should you replace your discs?

Although disc brakes are designed to wear out the brake pads and not the disc, the disc will end up wearing out through use over time.

It can be dangerous to ride with an overly worn disc; it can give out if you brake suddenly or intensely.

The maximum wear value for a disc corresponds to around 10% of its original value.

Repairs

Here's are some tips for changing a part on your bike. Can't find an answer to your issue? Contact our technicians using the "Assistance" button below, or make an appointment at your Decathlon workshop.

CHANGING YOUR PEDALS

Are your pedals broken? Do you want to change your pedals for clipless ones? Here's our advice.

NB: please note that the screw thread on the left pedal is inverted and that the pedal thus screws on in an anti-clockwise direction. The right pedal has a standard screw thread.

Please use the correct tool to take your pedals off as force needs to be exerted to unscrew them.

CHANGING YOUR INNER TUBE

If you pick up a puncture, our tutorial will tell you how to change your inner tube.

CHANGING YOUR HANDLEBAR TAPE

The tape on your handlebar will wear over time and you'll need to change it occasionally.

YOUR BIKE ISN'T BRAKING VERY WELL

There are several things you can do if your brakes aren't working as well as they used to:

- Use a degreaser to clean the disc.

- Check the brake pads for wear.

- Check the tension of the cable.

Check out the demonstration in this video:

YOUR DISC BRAKES ARE MAKING A NOISE

If your disc makes noise:

- Check that your wheel is properly centred. To do this, loosen the wheel and tighten it up again.

- Check that the brake calliper is in the right position.

- Check the brake pads for wear.

- Check the tension of your brake cables.

If your brake pads are worn, you must change them. Watch the following video tutorial.

Your derailleur isn't able to shift gears any more

If your derailleur is no longer responding to your gear changes, you may have to replace the cables and housings on the derailleur.

Watch our video tutorial to find out how:

YOUR GEARS ARE SKIPPING

If the gears are skipping, you should check the following:

- The wear on your drive train.

- The tension of the cables.

If the problem lies elsewhere, then you should adjust your derailleur.
